Library Announcement
The Oscars are this weekend. With Oppenheimer nominated for a slew of awards, Mrs. Gillespie wanted to highlight the book Bomb: The Race to Build - and Steal - the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin. This book follows the creation of the atomic bomb, along with the race to beat the Germans to the technology, and then ultimately the attempt to keep the Russians from using the technology as well. In addition to the narrative non-fiction book, there is also a graphic novel adaptation of the book. Both are available to check out from the library.

Women’s History Month
Today we honor Dr. Sally Ride who was an American astronaut and physicist, best known as the first American woman to fly in space. Born on May 26, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, Ride's passion for science and space exploration was present from an early age. She earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford. In 1978, she joined NASA's astronaut corps. On June 18, 1983, Ride made history when she flew aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger as a mission specialist, becoming the first American woman and the third woman overall to journey into space. Throughout her career, Ride continued to inspire countless individuals, particularly young women, to pursue careers in science and engineering, and she remained an advocate for science education until her passing in 2012.

Beyond her groundbreaking achievements in space exploration, Sally Ride was also a passionate advocate for STEM education and gender equality in the sciences. Following her retirement from NASA in 1987, she dedicated much of her life to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers, particularly encouraging young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields. She co-founded Sally Ride Science, a company aimed at motivating children, especially girls, to pursue their interests in science and technology. Through her books, public appearances, and educational programs, Ride left an indelible legacy, not only as a pioneering astronaut but also as a tireless champion for the advancement of science and the empowerment of women in STEM.

HawXpo 4/13
We will be holding our HawXpo event on Saturday, April 13th. This will be a large-scale event on campus that will celebrate pop culture and gaming to enhance social skills. It will have vendors, gaming and board competitions, speakers, panels, food trucks, and much, much more. In addition to our community, we have school, collegiate, and business partners that will be assisting and attending - watch for more info to come.

We will be offering students the opportunity to sell their artwork, crafts, products, etc. at HawXpo this year on Saturday, April 13th. There is no charge for Hill Top students to have a table, but we ask that you please complete this form so we can get a count. The deadline to sign up is March 15th!

If you have any questions about the day or hosting a table, contact Katie Gushka @ [email protected].
