World Kindness Day
On Monday, November 13th, Hill Top Prep's middle school students will be participating in World Kindness Day. This is a global observance dedicated to promoting and celebrating acts of kindness. This day serves as a reminder of the positive impact that kindness can have on individuals, communities, and the world at large. It encourages people to perform intentional acts of kindness and foster a culture of compassion and generosity.

Throughout the day, students will be using a "kindness" BINGO card to see how many random acts of kindness they can complete. Additionally, students will be participating in activities celebrating kindness, including class discussions and art projects.

Students are encouraged to wear tie-dye (shirts, bandanas, socks, etc.) to show peace and love or yellow symbolizing happiness and gratitude. If they wear tie-dye or yellow, they do not need to wear a collared shirt.

American Heritage Month
Did you know?
Columbus did not “discover” America. When Europe "discovered" the Americas, there were already 50 million Native Americans and Indigenous peoples living there. Of that, 10 million were living in what was to become the United States. To say that Columbus discovered the "new world" disregards the rich cultures and complex societies that had already existed here for generations by the time Columbus made his way across the ocean.

It wasn’t until 1924 that Native Americans were granted citizenship after Congress enacted the Indian Citizenship Act. While Native Americans were also given the right to vote in 1924, it took another 40 years for all 50 states to allow voting rights.

During World War II, the United States government enlisted the help of skilled Native Americans, known as code talkers, who used the Navajo language to transmit top-secret information to allied forces. Much of this information was classified until 2002 when Congress passed the Code Talkers Recognition Act. Overall, some tribes had as much as 70% participation in the war effort.
