Community Meeting Announcements
February 17, 2022

Reminder- No school tomorrow, Friday Feb., 18 and Monday Feb., 21.

Today’s Music: Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles. Thank you to Mr. Needham for today’s song suggestion.

Fun Friday- Expedition Escape 3/4
Hill Top's next Fun Friday will be March 4, 2022. We'll be visiting Expedition Escape in King of Prussia, PA. Expedition Escape is a collection of 4 really fun escape rooms that take up to an hour to complete. It's a great team building and problem-solving activity that is also extremely fun.

Depending on how many signups we get, students will be able to choose between 2 to 4 escape rooms based on what they're interested in. We'll have more information about that as we get closer to the date and enrollments are finished.

Cost is $60. It includes admission, chaperone supervision, and bus transportation. We will be eating nearby afterward, but that is not included. Look for the email that Mr. Betteridge sent home with registration details. If you have any questions contact Brian Betteridge at [email protected].

One-Act Play Auditions
Are you interested in theater? Are you also interested in not being eaten by sharks?
Come audition for the Spring One-Act, Everyone Gets Eaten by Sharks, by Marshall Pailet. (As perhaps expected, it involves quite a lot of people getting comedically eaten by sharks.)
Auditions are Monday, February 14th and Wednesday, February 16th during Mentor Period and Tuesday, February 15th and Thursday, February 16th during Activity Period in The Nest. Everyone who auditions will be cast. Contact Ms. Hardiman with questions at [email protected].

Straff House Food Drive
Did you know that Philadelphia is the poorest large city in the US? And many of its residents earn less than 23 thousand dollars a year? While this may sound like a lot, it’s not and many people are food and housing insecure.

You may have noticed the flyers are posters around campus but we wanted to remind you that the Spring into Action Canned Food Drive begins today and will run through March 21st. Thank you to those that have donated already! Let your parents know this week and please continue to bring your cans in.

By bringing in your canned goods you are helping fight hunger in the city! You can drop your cans in the lobby by Mrs. Barnes’ desk, the Upper Linden Landing, and at the entrance of Fisher Hall. Thanks so much!

Animal Rescue Collection
The National Honor Society is collecting clean used sheets, towels, blankets, comforters, and even pillow cases. We are also happy to have any in-date pet food or kitty litter that you no longer have use for. The NHS is also collecting gift cards or money that you would like to donate to buy food, treats, toys, or medications for animals currently waiting for their forever families and forever homes. Just having a warm spot is something some of the pets in our shelters don’t have right now. So please, help us add to our collection to help these amazing pets. Donations may be left on the bench by Mrs. Barnes’ desk. Thank you for all of your help!

Young Writer's Award
Mrs. Nelson reminded all students about the annual Young Writer's Award sponsored by her teachers' organization, Alpha Delta Kappa. This year's prompt is "How have your lived experiences (or cultural experiences) shaped you into the young individual you are today?" There will be two 1st place awards of $100 each, one for grades 9-12 and another for grades 6-8. In addition, there will be an honorable mention award of $50 for both grades 9-12 and 6-8. Entries should be emailed to [email protected] by March 4. Contact Mrs. Nelson to receive more details at [email protected].

Transportation Reminder
As we are now into the winter months, here are a few things to remember regarding transportation and school closings. If your child takes school district transportation, please make sure that you pay attention to your individual school district’s instructions. If your district is delayed, your child’s bus will be delayed, if your district is closed, your child will not have transportation to Hill Top. If Hill Top is open and your district is closed, your child’s absence will not be counted as a day out of school. If Hill Top closed due to the weather, you will receive an automated phone call letting you know the status of the day. In addition, you will see the information on our school’s website, and all of the major TV stations will have our school’s name and status on the “crawl” at the bottom of the screen. Our school phone message will have the information as well. Please contact me with any questions at [email protected].
