There is No Homework Club Today

Today’s Music: Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell. It was a suggestion by the folks who have created the Monarch Butterfly Project to remind us of what is happening to our environment and the impact that the loss of habit has on the creatures who share this earth with us.

On Tuesday, March 23rd, Wednesday, March 24th, and Thursday March 25th standardized testing will take place. Early dismissal on each day will be at 12:00pm. School district buses will be picking up at that early dismissal time. Thursday, March 25th is the make-up day for students who do not finish their testing on the prior two days or miss one of the previous testing days. If your child needs to come in on Thursday, you will receive an email letting you know; otherwise, your child will not have school that day. No laptops or electronics of any kind are permitted during testing. There will be no lunch served, but students are encouraged to bring water and snacks to eat. Students may bring a book or magazine to read if they finish their testing early. Friday is an in-service day for teachers, but all students will begin their spring break!

Important Information for the testing days:

• No laptop or electronics allowed in the testing rooms- book bags may be left at home
• No lunch will be served
• Snacks permitted
• Book or magazine permitted if finished testing early
• Early Dismissal at 12:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (make-up day)
• School district buses will pick-up at the early dismissal time, unless otherwise notified
• No after school activities will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Snacks with a Purpose
Tomorrow and Wednesday we will have 'snacks with a purpose' available during breaks. Instead of
looking at the food content as energy, we're going to look at the type of chemicals released to the brain as a result of the actions of the muscles and joint in your mouth. Any quick, short and forceful action - such as chewing something crunchy - produces an 'alerting' chemical. Deep pressure, on the other hand, such as sucking, releases calming chemicals.
So...if you're feeling stressed, we will have a calming snack available and if you're feeling fatigued, we'll have an alerting snack for you.
Happy testing!

Hill Top Prom-5/14
Hill Top's prom will be held Friday, May 14th, from 7 to 11 pm for students in grades 10 through Horizons. We will be dining and dancing on the outside deck at Radnor Valley Country Club. Tickets will be 55.00 dollars, and because we have the great outdoors as our backdrop, Hill Top students may bring guests from outside of school. Expect Mr. Sedgwick to have more information and tickets for sale after Spring Break.

Hill Top’s Monarch Butterfly Garden
Did you know that the Monarch Butterfly population has decreased by 80% since the mid 1990s? In 2019 Hill Top Students decided to do something about this! The 8th grade class' Unless Project and Hill Top Horticulture began the planning stages for the Hill Top Preparatory School Community Butterfly Garden. This year the planning continued with Hill Top's science classes and ET classes joining the fun. This spring we WILL to bring this project to fruition with the installation of a butterfly garden. But we need your support! Please purchase a Save the Monarch T-shirt or hoodie designed by our own Hill Top Prep Alum Zephyr Markley class of 2020!

T-shirts and hoodies can be purchased using the following link

Please reach out to Ms. Kroberger or Mrs. Stretch with any questions.

Summer Adventure
Look for the email Mr. Van Dyke sent to upper school students and parents announcing this summer's Adventure Trek to Washington State! Students who are interested in travelling with the school in July are asked to respond to the email to receive additional information about the trip. Highlights of the Trek will include Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park, Mount Ranier and the San Juan Islands! It's going to be EPIC!
The list of interested students for the trip is growing! Be sure to get your name into Mr. VanDyke if you would like more information about the trip.
