Winterfest at the Delaware River Rink
The Fun Friday trip to Delaware River Rink at Penn’s Landing is today. We're looking forward to a fun night of ice skating, festive holiday music, and hot chocolate.

Basketball Game Results
Mrs. Suplick announced that he Hill Top Hawks opened the season with a strong showing against DVFS. The game was competitive, with the final score ending in a loss of 45-38. All the players saw some game time, with the high scorers being Micah Stanford (11), Zach Jacovini (11) and Raaf'i Gorham (8). Jonah Lynn, our sole middle schooler, made his Hill Top debut and hit his famed 3-pointer. We thank the HT Community for their support and look forward to seeing everyone at our next game!
Art Soup Comes to Campus
Austin Newbold recited his poem, “Maria Carey Wants Me for Christmas.” We all enjoyed his witty take on this traditional holiday song.
Holiday Grams
Mrs. Stretch thanked the ET students for their help in delivering Holiday Grams this morning.
Spirit of the Hawk
Connor Harvey was awarded a Spirit of the Hawk for Leadership. Connor’s longtime sailing instructor invited him to sail in the Main Line Scholastic Sailing Association’s league this fall. It’s a competitive league with sailors from public and private schools in the Philadelphia suburbs, NJ, and Delaware. Connor came in 3rd place out of 9 for the season. Congratulations Connor!
Mr. Van Dyke awarded Will Morrissey with a Spirit of the Hawk for Leadership. Will Morrissey took the initiative to survey the 9th through 12th graders on taking a trip to Vermont. Thanks to Will there was a great interest in a skiing trip to Vermont. Congratulations Will!
9th Grade Trip to Philly
Mr. Cohen thanked the 9th grade students for their fantastic behavior on yesterday’s trip to the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia.
Skiing Snowboarding and Tubing Trip- 1/10 & 2/7
Mr. Van Dyke has sent home an email with the Skiing & Riding Club trip information. Look for the trip form attached to Mr. Van Dyke’s email. Students interested in Skiing, Snowboarding, and Tubing need to return forms by Tomorrow. Forms are also available in the school lobby. Winter White Out Dance-Ticket Design Contest-1/25
The Winter White Out Dance will take place on Saturday, January 25th at Hill Top. 9th through 12th graders interested in submitting a ticket design for this event should sign up on the contest sheet hanging in the Snapple room.
Philadelphia Zoo’s Unless Project
The eighth graders have been participating in the Philadelphia Zoo’s Unless Contest, which highlights an endangered animal and helps protect it. To help our efforts in the Unless Contest, please bring in aluminum cans and plastic bottles to school by Friday, December 20th for the Upcycle Art Sale, which will be in January. There are boxes in the gym and in the Snapple room to place your donations. Contact Ms. Gulczynski with any questions at [email protected].
Updated Hill Top Job Board
The Hill Top Job Board has been updated with part time/seasonal positions. The board is located in the Upper Linden hallway and is divided into the 5 surrounding counties. The jobs posted are suitable positions for students. Students who are seeking a job are encouraged to take a posting as well as let Mrs. Navarra know if they have a job to post. Mrs. Navarra also offered to assist any student in seeking employment.
Middle School Student Council Promoting Amazon Smile
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on Amazon Smile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate half of a percent of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice.
The MSSC is supporting a sign-up campaign for students, faculty, family and friends to go to Smile.Amazon.com and designate Hill Top as your non-profit charity. It is important to type Hill Top Preparatory NOT Hill Top Prep; otherwise, our school does not appear in the search.
It’s free to sign up, fun to shop and free money for Hill Top.
Box Tops for Education Campaign
The MSSC has renewed sponsorship of the Box Tops for Education campaign. These are the pink and white coupons found on cereal boxes, other General Mills products, paper products, household cleaning products, and many other products, including food storage products such as Ziplock Bags. The school gets ten cents for each one we submit. It may not sound like much, but it will add up if we take the time to cut them out and bring them in. A collection box will be on Mrs. Barnes’s desk.
We have collected $41.00 from everyone's Box Top coupons. Our goal is to double that by the next collection period in April.

Post-Secondary Corner
College for a Day workshops - see Mrs. Gillespie for details!
Social Justice: This session includes four interrelated principles (equity, access, participation, and rights) across the disciplines of Early Childhood Education, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Social Work, and Sociology. Participants will address each of the four interrelated principles and contribute to meaningful dialogue and discussion of actions steps that can lead to positive change.
Career Exploration in Business, Computing Science, & Paralegal Studies: join the Business, Computing Science, and Paralegal Studies departments for an immersive experience and hear from panelists about current and future career opportunities in these fields. Participants will have a chance to network with Delaware County Community College students and faculty and participate in a variety of workshops.
Hackathon Event
At the 2019-2020 Hackathon event, students will be confronted with a real world problem that requires collaboration and innovation to develop creative solutions. In an effort to address global challenges and achieve a better future, the Hackathon problem is based on the United Nations global goals. Sponsored by the DCIU intermediate unit. 24 Challenge
The 24 Challenge is a tournament-style competition organized around the 24 Game. The competition is for students in grades 4-8, sponsored by the DCIU intermediate unit.
Over a period of months preceding the event, teachers use the 24 game in their classrooms to help students hone their mathematics skills. Then, using the official rules made available through DCIU- Schools or districts hold local or district-wide playoffs to determine which students will advance to the Championship Event!
