Blood Drive
The National Honor Society's partnership with the American Red Cross was a huge success! We are excited to share that our community donated 30 pints of blood on Wednesday - that's enough to help up to 90 people! Thank you to everyone who supported the blood drive. We really appreciate you. Also, the winner of the Phillies ticket raffle was.......Mr. Smallwood! However, he is not able to attend the game tonight and asked me to spin the wheel one more time. So, the lucky winner of the tickets and the parking pass for tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates is JONAH L.! Congratulations Jonah - we hope tonight is a great game and that the weather isn't terrible.

Day of Silence
You may have noticed that some of your classmates in the Upper School are not speaking today. That is because they are participating in GLSEN's Day of Silence. GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students. Our students' silence symbolically represents the silencing of LGBTQ students and has been held each year in April since 1996. Please respect your peers as they support this very worthy cause today. If you are interested in learning more about this, feel free to see me after the meeting.

Spirit of the Hawks
Charlie T has regularly taken the opportunity to work out in the new fitness center each week. His workout has been consistently demanding and sometimes requires that he is unable to enjoy less physically demanding social time with his friends. He has made fantastic choices in doing the "work" first, then joining his friends for far less demanding socialization. Congratulations Charlie for being awarded the Spirit of the Hawk for his Perseverance in Fitness Club!

RJ P, Annie F, and Joshua J received a Spirit of the Hawk Award for Leadership today. During the field trip to the Museum of the American Revolution last Friday, Annie, Josh, and RJ showed off their leadership skills. They were quiet and respectful as we navigated through the museum space. They engaged with each of the exhibits and asked fantastic questions throughout the trip. They led by example and should be proud!

Ultimate Frisbee
Wednesday’s game against Delaware Valley Friends School was a rematch from our first loss of the season. Less wind, more sun, and the Hawks sported some fresh new jerseys. DVFS were great hosts and the game was exceptional from beginning to end.

The match started positive again with a win on the disc toss - from our two match captains Juan M and Max H - and two unanswered early scores. While DVFS were able to come back later in the half, the halftime score settled at Hawks 5 - 4 DVFS as the Hawks scored a go ahead point on a play with only a few seconds left on the clock.

It is important to mention that our first half lead was accomplished with 9 players, to DVFS’ 17 players. In addition, early in the first half, John B laid out for a defensive block and was injured. This put the team down to one sub for the entirety of the game, but earned us a clamorous cheerleader despite the boo boo. John’s would not be the last of our injuries.

The second half started with a Hawks point and the scoring went back and forth from then on. A bit into the second half Ben S went up for a catch and came down with a bruised hand and a nosebleed, but showed immense courage by taking the quick breather and then asking to get back into the game. Guts!

Then, Adam F - a menace on defense - barreled into a defense block but slid out on the artificial turf in the process. The turf burn will be there for a bit but it did not stop him from completing the game. Not soon after, Carly C - who probably ran the equivalent of a 5k throughout the game - went down with an ankle injury, and spent some time on the bench before asking to get back into the game. More GUTS!

Throughout all the injuries and perseverance on that front, Hill Top kept scoring! Some highlight performances on the scoresheet were Ryan P’s first 2 points of the season and Juan M continuing to showcase productivity with 3 assists. Adam F scored 2 touchdowns in his very first frisbee game! Ben S scored 4 touchdowns out of our total of 8, and Max H was a pure quarterback, tossing the disc for 4 of the team’s points.

Despite the tie, the game was a victory on so many levels. FIVE Spirit of the Hawks went out for this one. All students came to school the next day free of injury, but sporting some bruises. Looking forward to practice and the next game on April 29th.

Congratulations to the following students awarded Spirit of the Hawks: John B. for Perseverance, Ben S. for Courage, Carly C. for Leadership, Max H. for Leadership & Adam F. for Service.
