Bake Sale-Today Today, Hill Top Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee & The Bean Scene is running a bake sale for charity. The best part is that the Bean Scene will be running TWICE! It was open this morning and will also run during lunch. All the money raised will be donated to Black Girls Code, an organization dedicated to advancing STEM Education and opportunities in the field for young women.
Hawks Ultimate – Announcement by Mr. Penney Wednesday’s game against Delaware Valley Friends school was our first test of the season. With limited practice and many newcomers to the team, the Hawks showcased real potential for a competitive season. It was a windy day against an energetic opponent, resulting in a low scoring, high energy game.
The Hawks struck first, with an opening two points, but were then held to just one more score through the first half. Close defense from the whole team kept the first close with a score of Hawks 3–4 DVFS. Notable performance was Juan M’s early three points and great positioning.
The second half started fast with a Hawks touchdown by Ben S. to tie the game. Fierce winds cut the second half tight but DVFS was able to bounce back with two unanswered touchdowns to close out the game. Ben S, Max H, and a host of others played a stellar defense to keep us in it to the finish. The next game will be on April 10th!
Players Comments John B- the great communicator! Vocal on the field! Keep it up. Ben S- absolute highlight reel defense from start to finish - great assist. Ryan P- played smart frisbee, in windy conditions - short throws! Carly C- perfect defensive game - great 1:1 coverage. Arden L - hustled throughout, impressive tenacity when guarding the frisbee. Spencer C - lovely performance given the late addition to the squad. Juan M - 3 points in 1 game - what a show. Nick M – explosive first half, way to be for the touchdown. Jonah L – solid first half, consistent quarterbacking on offense. Max H - played the full game with total hustle, good two points and defense.
Spirit of the Hawk Hill Top's Horticulture Class completed their year-long project of designing and building a 12ft x 16ft Community Garden for the 2024 Philadelphia Flower Show. Proceeds from the Flower Show provide support for PHS’s year-round work in the Greater Philadelphia region; including funding the thousands of trees & PHS plants each year, the design and maintenance of our free public gardens, and the support of more than 170 community gardens throughout the region. For their support to Hill Top and the greater Philadelphia area a Spirit of the Hawk for Service was awarded to Daniel B., Shannyn M., Rae N., Ryan R., Ed S., and Vic T. One student took the initiative to volunteer for additional hours at the Flower Show. Alex P. went to the show before school to help maintain the garden. Alex also helped to remove the garden at the end of the show. For his role, Alex was awarded a Spirit of the Hawk for Leadership.
