Since graduating from Hill Top in 2010, Jacob L. has embraced a journey defined by creativity, resilience, and a willingness to forge his own path.
He first studied Marine Biology at Stockton University, where he thrived in student life through leadership roles in various clubs and organizations. After graduation, he pivoted into retail management, sharpening his organizational skills while earning a Certificate in Leadership Development from Penn State University. During this time, his passion for games grew — he streamed on Twitch, built his own online gaming community, and helped to launch a thriving Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament scene at his local gaming store.
In 2023, Jacob realized the intersection of his passions—games, community, and helping others—was leading him toward a career in occupational therapy. With focus and determination, he completed all his prerequisites in just over a year, including a valuable shadowing experience with Hill Top’s very own Occupational Therapist, Michelle Trusty.
This past May, Jacob earned acceptances to two of his top-choice programs, ultimately selecting Drexel University. He is now a first-year MSOT student at their Elkins Park campus and serves as Student Council Treasurer for the OT Class of 2027! Jacob’s dream is to combine Occupational Therapy with gaming by creating more accessible and inclusive experiences at local game stores and beyond.
Beyond academics, Jacob lives in Pennsylvania with his partner, Courtney, and their two orange cats, Ace and Cheddar. They enjoy working out, yoga, co-op video games, kayaking, and exploring Philadelphia’s food scene. Reflecting back on his path, Jacob says he’s “just enjoying the journey” and looks forward to a bright future in a dream career.
