Accommodations for Final Exams

The 9th grade academy and upper school students that feel they need accommodations for upcoming finals are urged to sign up to meet with Mrs. Gillespie, Mrs. Trusty, or Mrs. Rumsey as soon as possible. The accommodations signup sheet is in the Snapple room.

Spirit of the Hawk Awards

Mrs. Gillespie awarded Austin Newbold and Faith Markley with Student of the Hawks for Courage. They made cold calls to schools where they are taking college classes to get issues worked out. Both students did an outstanding job. Congratulations to Austin and Faith!

Year Book Announcements and Dedication Award

David Redpath announced with his enthusiastic spirit that today is the day all students will receive their year book! Katie Bradley shared that she created the year books cover art, and Claire Salisbury talked about why she chose the 2019 year book theme which is Out of the Blue and Into the Brave. Pat Bay introduced Mr. Needham who read his message of encouragement to the senior class of 2019.

Every year the senior class votes on a faculty or staff member to dedicate the year book to. Makena Luberda announced that for the first time ever the students are dedicating this year’s book to two teachers. This year’s dedication goes to Mrs. Rumsey and Ms. Kazatsky!

Mrs. Rumsey has been at Hill Top for three years. Whether planning college visits for the E/T classes or going on trips with the senior class, Mrs. Rumsey has a personality that every student looks for. She has strict moments, but at the end of the day, she is a dedicated, fun loving and humorous teacher, who is always willing to lend students a helping hand.

Ms. Kazatsky shares her love for literature with all around her. You can typically find her in the mansion laughing with a student, reading many different genres of books or just enjoying teaching the students. She has helped many students in developing their writing and grammar skills. Ms. Kazatsky has made a real impact in her four years at Hill Top.

The seniors are excited to honor these exceptional teachers! Congratulations to Mrs. Rumsey and Ms. Kazatsky!

Visiting Family

We welcomed a visiting family looking at the 9th grade for their daughter.

Shadow Guides

We welcomed Gabe Eisenberg who is shadowing Luke Erwin in the 7th grade.

8th Grade Petition Project

The 8th Grade is moving forward with their class Petition Project - to get Mr. Cohen to dye his hair blue! Students have already acquired enough school signatures, and have now designed a format for their objective. It will happen via fundraiser for the Middle and Upper School student councils. Once the school raises $100 through student, faculty, and staff donations, an announcement will be made and Mr. Cohen will go blue for Spirit Week! Both student councils will receive $50 to help with the purchase of decorations for school events, classroom items, and more! Please consider sparing a dollar or two for a great Hill Top event and cause.

Petition Project UPDATE: The fundraiser for the 8th Grade petition project has expanded to include a $100 goal for the Optimist Club. Mr. Peselli, the Middle School counselor, has volunteered to dye his beard BLUE if the goal is reached. The original goal of $100 for the school's student councils has already been achieved, meaning Mr. Cohen is set to go blue for Spirit Week.

The Spring Brew is this Thursday!

Spring Brew is coming, and we're excited to show what the students have put together for this year's event.

You may be asking, what is Spring Brew?

Spring Brew is an evening that features our student actors, singers, musicians, poets, artists, sports blogging, t-shirt designer, and recording artist. With such variety in Spring Brew, there is truly something for everyone! The theme is a relaxed, artsy coffee house setting.

It's a great opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate all that's been accomplished this year!

Soles4Souls’ Shoe Collection

Hill Top is collecting new and gently used shoes. Donated shoes will be repurposed and distributed through Soles4Souls’, a micro-enterprise program that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras and other developing nations. The program helps individuals start small businesses.
Jared Miller is supporting his brother Zachary with this service project. The collection bin is by the stairwell between the lobby and the meeting room. Te deadline for this collection is June 11th. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hill Top Scarves

The Hill Top Horticulture group continues to sell their cozy, reversible, school spirit scarves. The scarves are $15 each. All proceeds benefit the Hill Top Horticulture Club. Parents may pay online, or with a check. Please make checks payable to Hill Top Preparatory School. Contact Mrs. Stretch with your order details at [email protected]. Thank you for your support!

Hill Top Job Board

Mrs. Navarra announced today the PET SMART is hiring part-time Bathers and Groomers in over 20 Pet Smarts in the 5 county regions. Interested students were encouraged to check the Job Board to see if a Pet Smart near them was hiring. Mrs. Navarra included that interested students should see her for further details and/or help with the application process.

The Hill Top Job Board is located in the Upper Linden hallway and is divided into the 5 surrounding counties. The jobs posted are suitable for students and are part-time positions. Students who are seeking a job are encouraged to take a posting as well as let Mrs. Navarra know if they have a job to post. Mrs. Navarra also offered to assist any student in seeking employment.

Box Tops for Education Campaign

The MSSC has renewed sponsorship of the Box Tops for Education campaign. These are the pink and white coupons found on cereal boxes, other General Mills products, paper products, household cleaning products, and many other products, including food storage products such as Ziplock Bags. The school gets ten cents for each one we submit. It may not sound like much, but like Amazon Smile donations, it will add up if we take the time to cut them out and bring them in. A collection box will be on Mrs. Stamler’s desk. Thank you!

Parents Corner

The Parent's Association is looking for board members for next year.

The available positions are president, vice president and secretary. We are also looking for chairs for the following events: Bingo and ice cream social, martini and massage, comic con and staff appreciation. These are great volunteer opportunities with minimal time commitment. Contact Kitty Goetz at [email protected] or Jodi Lambright at ([email protected])
